Houses are to be built

A HOUSING development in Winsford which infuriated residents has been given approval following a public inquiry.

The proposed development to build between 16 and 25 houses at Ways Green was given the go-ahead despite objections from residents and Vale Royal Borough Council. Government inspector Karen Baker said in her report: "I note the concerns of local residents and the council with regards to the effect of these developments on the Flashes and the surrounding area.

"The appellants confirmed at the inquiry that it is their intention to retain the significant trees on the site and the hedge along the north western boundary.

"I conclude therefore that the proposals would not harm the character and appearance of the area with particular reference to the landscape and visual amenity."

Vale Royal Borough Council rejected the planning application from Bellflower Homes to build the homes at Ways Green last year, but the developers appealed and the matter was set down for a public inquiry.

Colin Williams, planning and control manager at Vale Royal, told the inquiry that there were 'no compelling grounds' to release the site for housing.

He said: "It would be contrary to development plan policies that seek to safeguard the visual amenity of the area."

But Mrs Baker said in her report: "I am satisfied that the redevelopment of this site for either 16 or 25 dwellings would be in keeping with the well established residential character of the area."
