WIDNES St Maries U16s went through to the Lancashire cup final.

Wigan started the stronger playing the first 30 minutes in the Maries' half.

The Maries defended well until Wigan were awarded a penalty in front of posts but they failed to convert.

Twenty minutes after the restart Scot Yates recovered from a high tackle 45 yards out to convert.

This lifted the Maries and they applied great pressure on the Pats.

Widnes kept the ball alive along the attacking line for Andrew Dearden to score in the corner. Yates added the extras to make the final score 8-0.

Latchford U12s 10

Widnes St Maries U12s 28

ST Maries reached the semi final of the Lancashire cup at the expense of Latchford.

Danny Mellor scored the opening and then Bobbie Goulding produced a great off-load for Alex Brown to score in the corner to make it 10-0 at half time.

After the break St Maries attacked the Latchford line and a great cross-field kick by Goulding saw Danny Mellor score his second try.

Latchford responded with a try from 35 yards before Carl Mercer touched down.

Man of the match Jack Murphy produced Mercer's second try before another Goulding kick saw Steven Ball dive over.

Latchford added a try following an interception to complete the scoring.

Dominic Speakman took the coach's award.

l WIDNES St Maries U15s scrum half and captain has been selected for the England U15s to represent his country versus Wales at Easter.

Richard Myler progressed from regional to national camp and has been on Widnes Vikings scholarship since he was 12.
