CYCLE routes in Crewe and Nantwich are to receive a boost from a new Government initiative, Links To Schools.
The scheme aims to extend the National Cycle Network to create greener and safer routes to schools.
The borough council will benefit from a share of £10 million in funding and is already working with the county council and sustainable transport charity Sustrans to improve cycle ways.
In Crewe, routes linking Pebblebrook School to Nantwich Road and better connections to Gresty Brook are on the cards.
And in Nantwich there will be improvements to the route from Reaseheath College along the River Weaver to Nantwich centre and also from Malbank School into Nantwich.
It is hoped that both schemes will be ready by May.
Promoting the scheme, Transport minister Alastair Darling said: "As well as being fun, cycling improves health, reduces school-gate congestion and pollution with a sense of independence.
The council's cabinet member for the environment, Penny Butterill added: "I am delighted that Crewe and Nantwich has secured this funding for safer and greener routes to school which can, of course, be used and enjoyed by all our residents."
