Judge bans sex offender from approaching children

A CONGLETON paedophile has been banned from approaching children following behaviour since his conviction for sex crimes a decade ago.

The 45-year-old man, who cannot be named for legal reasons, was issued with a sexual offences prevention order at South Cheshire Magistrates Court last Wednesday.

The order bans him from approaching, engaging in conversation, or otherwise being in the company of children aged under 16.

The application was made by Cheshire Constabulary following his convictions in 1994 for indecent assault on a male aged under 16 and for gross indecency.

District judge Brigitte Knight told him: "Because of your behaviour since then it is necessary to make a sexual offences prevention order to protect the public from serious harm from you."

The order also prohibits him from allowing anyone under the age of 16 years into his home and from fishing or loitering near rivers, streams, lakes and ponds.

It further excludes him from entering a zone between locks 62 and 88 on the Macclesfield Canal and along the River Dane through Congleton.

He is also banned from drinking alcohol in public except in licensed premises.

The judge warned him that the order runs until further notice and any breach could land him with a five-year prison sentence.
