Fire safety cash grants on offer

WARRINGTON is to share in a £255,000 Government boost that will allow thousands of smoke alarms to be fitted in homes across Cheshire.

More than 14,200 households will be offered free alarms and fire safety advice - with priority going to older people, young families and black and ethnic minority groups, who are statistically more at risk from house fires.

Paul MacGugan, station commander at Warrington Fire Station, said: "This money will be used over the next four years to target those most at risk in our communities.

"The fitting of 10-year smoke alarms and sprinkler systems in some residential properties and other initiatives will all figure in the money being spent where it is most needed."

The funding is part of a £25 million nationwide package aimed at fire prevention.

Cheshire Fire Service wants to hear from any organisations which may be able to assist in identifying people vulnerable to fire.
