Our memorial belongs to the public, not just the council

IN the Guardian edition November 11 we had due notice that Cllr Peter Kent was rather perturbed, re people jumping on a band wagon and I thought that if he could make the conditions of who protested, re the moving of 'OUR MEMORIAL', he would surely, or he may, stand a better chance of winning.

This protest as far as I am concerned is to stop you from moving our war memorial from a position it rightly deserves to a place of obscurity, so that it need only be a concern for TWO MINUTES A YEAR!

From my experience, war memorials are placed where many of us like to remember the reason that names are on a memorial. It is because they died protecting what is right. I strongly opposed the moving or the suggested move about 12 years ago.

The move was defeated then and it must be now. Those names are not to be moved to a ROUNDABOUT, one of the busiest in the country, and the residence of undesirables.

The names on those plaques rightly deserve a place of dignity; I think the memorial belongs to the public, not the council.

I am sending for more band wagons.
