Wreath vandalism 'must be stopped'

WREATHS that were laid at Winsford war memorial on Remembrance Sunday have been vandalised and a Winsford town councillor is demanding answers.

Clr Peter Gannon is furious that a wreath placed at the war memorial on behalf of the Liberal Democrats was destroyed.

He said: "The centre of the wreath containing the tribute message had been damaged and I think it is a disgrace.

"I want to know why it is only specific wreaths that are being vandalised.

"I don't want to cast aspersions but it seems strange that it is always the Liberal Democrat wreath that gets targeted.

"The same thing happened to our wreath last year.

"Why is this happening and who is doing it that is the question?"

Clr Gannon is now calling on Modus, the company responsible for the shopping centre, to increase security.

He said: "What on earth are they doing? They have a moral obligation to protect those wreaths.

"I would like to see the cameras at the shopping centre pointing towards the war memorial so if this does happen again in the future we will have some idea of who is responsible.

"I have raised my concerns with Modus over the security of the shopping centre at night and hope this will not happen again."

"I feel morally abused. I will be looking to get to the bottom of this.

"If it is kids that have done it they should be taken to one side and have the significance of the wreaths explained to them.

"To do this is totally insulting and wrong. This happened 48 hours after the service on Remembrance Sunday and I think it is completely unacceptable."
