Legion says sorry for parade service error

ORGANISERS of the Armistice Day service in Winsford have vowed lessons have been learned after dozens of people missed this year's event.

People were left furious after the service at Winsford war memorial started early because the president of the British Legion's watch was wrong.

But representatives of the legion's Winsford branch believe they have learned from their mistakes.

Debbie Clewes, secretary of the branch, said: "The officers of the Winsford branch of the Royal British Legion would like to offer all members of the public and those organisations who were in attendance at the Armistice Service on November 11 its most sincere apologies for the early timing of this year's service.

"It was a most unfortunate event and we feel greatly dismayed that some members of the public missed out on the opportunity to pay their respects.

"Rest assured that the mistakes we have made shall be acted on and learned from and this will not happen again."

"If those members of the public who missed the event would like to contact the branch, an apology would be issued to them in person."

Mrs Clewes believes officers at the legion are now determined to make next year's service a success.

Tirelessly

She said: "The officers of the Royal British Legion and its members work tirelessly throughout the year to ensure that those who have served for our country receive the recognition they so truly deserve both in life and memory.

"This year saw the highest turnout at the Armistice service that we have seen for quite some time.

"The Winsford Royal British Legion has always been very lucky to be well supported by the people and organisations of the town and we have never underestimated the responsibility placed upon us."
