COMMUNITY wardens in Congleton have joined forces with the Community Action Team (CAT) to improve po

Echoing a new scheme launched by the CAT team, the wardens now have officers especially designated to each of the towns.

Community safety manager Tony Potts said: "We have three officers working specifically on each town. It means in practice each town has its own team of wardens who will look at problem areas and ways to tackle them.

"We are hoping that by doubling up with the CAT team, we will be able to have a real impact."

Covering Sandbach and Middlewich are Mark Simon, Nigel Hobbs and Amanda Buckley. The wardens can be contacted on 01270 883999.

Over the past few weeks, the wardens have dealt with seven abandoned vehicles and more than 30 untaxed vehicles.

Tony said: "The DVLA has been very pleased with the work we are doing on their behalf and we have been asked to talk to other local authorities to advise them on doing the same.

"Neither the DVLA nor the police have the resources to undertake the work that we are doing for them."

The CCTV cameras, monitored at Alsager by the wardens, have also been used to help police inquiries recently. Five tapes had been requested by Cheshire Police to help them look at incidents across the borough.

Wardens hope for big impact
