Taking time to celebrate

STUDENTS celebrated a successful academic year with their families, friends and the teaching staff of Mid-Cheshire College in an awards ceremony on Friday.

Winsford Mayor Clr Don Beckett and his daughter Claire Grant were the guests of honour at the event, which praised the achievements of more than 100 students who have completed Higher National Certificates and Diplomas in a variety of subjects, including arts and design, business, computing and information technology and engineering.

The Northwich college welcomed 46 students from the town and across the country to the ceremony, opened by principal John Reilly.

A special award was presented to Angela Sutherland, from Middlewich, who achieved the National Diploma in photography despite encountering personal difficulties.

This was the Victoria Barber Award, presented by the Barber family in memory of their daughter who was a HNC photography student who battled through poor health to complete the course in 2002.

Fellow Middlewich student Rachel Crawford achieved a Higher Certificate in paralegal studies in dramatic studies by attaining the highest overall marks throughout the country.

In recognition of this success, Rachel was given a Gold Medal Award from the National Association of Paralegals.
