Hooligans leave home in the dark

STAFF at a nursing home have hit out at the 'mindless vandals' who ripped down their Christmas lights at the weekend.

The lights had only been up outside Acorn Hollow Residential Nursing Home for two days before being torn down and broken.

Norma Catling, the home's activities co-ordinator, said the lights had been paid for out of the residents' fund and had cost them £200.

She said: "We spent all day on Friday buying the lights and putting them up, and someone has come along and pulled them down and pulled the wires out of the window.

"It could have caused a fire."

Norma said the offenders smashed the lights on the drive and left them there. She said they were now deciding whether they could afford to replace them. She said: "The residents were so pleased and everyone commented on how good they looked, and then some mindless vandals have come along and pulled them down.

"I couldn't believe that anyone would do something like this. It's clear that we are a nursing home."
