Go safely Matthew

IT'S Thunderbirds are go for a Fearnhead youngster after winning a bike themed on the popular TV programme.

Matthew Jones, aged five, scooped the prize, donated by Halfords, after visiting the Warrington Guardian's road safety exhibition in the Fish Market last Saturday. His mum Helen had picked up the competition form and taken it home but when she realised it needed to be posted at the stall, she drove all the way back.

She said: "I thought even if he only wins a bike bell Matthew would be happy, which is why I drove back."

Matthew, who loves everything to do with Thunderbirds was over the moon to have won the themed bike plus accessories and, after trying out the road safety exhibits, has a stronger road sense.

His mum said: "The stall had speed cameras, a police range rover and a zebra crossing. I sent Matthew across it a few times by himself so he knew what to do."

In a thank-you letter to the Guardian Matthew's mum, and dad Dave, wrote: "He had a great time at Halfords choosing his new Thunderbirds bike and lots of accessories to go with it and we know he will get lots of enjoyment from his prize for a long time."

Six lucky competition runners-up have won a helmet and there were also 50 prizes of a cycle bell.
