Fight to save Cheshires goes on

A CAMPAIGNER is taking her fight to safeguard a regiment's future to the very top.

County councillor Eveleigh Moore Dutton is taking a petition opposing the merging of the Cheshire Regiment with another regiment to the Prime Minister, Tony Blair.

Spurred on by the mother of a soldier serving in Iraq, Clr Moore Dutton launched a petition which has been signed by thousands of people.

She said: "I couldn't just sit back and do nothing. The Cheshire Regiment has always been there for us in times of need. Now it is time for us to repay that debt.

"I shall be taking the petition to Downing Street myself. What happens then depends on Mr Blair."
