Decision delayed on health centre

A DECISION on whether to approve plans for a new health centre in Birchwood has been held off until planning committee members visit the site.

Members voted to visit the former residential home on Delenty Drive, before deciding whether the conversion should go ahead.

If approved, the building, owned by Warrington Primary Care Trust, would be used to house community health services, which were controversially removed from Birchwood Medical Centre earlier this year. It was a shock move said to have been sparked by allegations of bullying.

Since the services were removed, PCT chief executive, Jonathon Smith, has come under fire from town councillors and service users for allowing the situation to get out of hand.

At a recent meeting of Birchwood Town Council, chairman Chris Fitzsimmons criticised the management blunders that had caused the services to be removed from the medical centre.
