Rising roll at under- threat primary school

A TOTAL of 14 children have already signed up to go to Longbarn Primary School in September next year.

The 14 children are already being taught at the school's nursery, and their parents are determined their children will continue to be taught at the school.

Now campaigners fighting to keep the school open hope the increased figures will halt plans to close the school. Council chiefs proposed to close the school in a radical shake-up of the town's education system. This week, youngsters from the Fallowfield Grove school enjoyed a trip to Asda Westbrook.

School governor Sue Conneeley said: "This trip is a good example of the work we do here at Longbarn.

"It is because we have smaller class sizes that we are able to do class trips such as this."

The school is holding a coffee afternoon, 1.30-5pm on Tuesday, November 16, to celebrate the school's SATs results. It is open to parents of pre-school children who want to learn more about the school.
