Ernie will be missed

IT was with sadness that I read of Ernie Wills' death in a cutting sent to me by a friend from last week's Warrington Guardian.

Ernie was our adult swimming coach for the best part of 20 years before we moved to the Midlands in 1996, but over the years he became much more than that.

He and his late wife Leah became very good friends and we enjoyed some great times in their company. They were a wonderful couple, immensely good fun and so young at heart.

They treated us and many of our other swimming colleagues as if we were family and we were privileged to have been invited to their golden wedding celebrations a number of years ago.

Ernie was a lovely man and I'm sure he will be sorely missed by all those who knew him.

We send our sincere condolences to his daughter Chris and his son Barry and all of his family.
