MINISTER BACKS LINK WITH AFRICA

LINKS are being forged across the globe by pupils at Hartford High School with the help of a village minister.

A group of pupils from Years Eight and 10 were inspired by Rev Mike Smith, from St John's Church, to hold a number of fundraising events for a school in Kenya.

More than £550 was raised by the group, the Kenya Link Team, which organised a sponsored silence, raffles and sold Fair Trade goods and crafts at school functions during the past nine months.

The geography department wanted to be involved with a school in Kenya after seeing photographs from Mr Smith's visit to the country and established a link for friendship as well as fundraising.

Letters and scrapbooks about school events and lessons have been exchanged between the schools and the team is planning a Kenyan day for Year Seven pupils, which will take place later in the year as part of the citizenship programme.
