Wids U12s 35 Port Sunlight 0

CALDY could not contain a tough and fired up Wids side today.

Both forwards and backs showed the hosts how to play fast controlled rugby.

Buckle (1) and Smith (2) both crashed over and Phillips (3 cons) put away the conversions. Final score 21-0. After a 30 minute break, the 14 man Wids squad took on Port Sunlight.

Control of the rucks, mauls and scrums meant quick ball for the backs and some great play out on the wings.

Price, Mercer, Morris Stewart and Buckle played like a pack well beyond their years.

Tight scrummaging and nice play in the lineouts marked the Wids forwards out as the better of the two packs. Storming runs by Price, Buckle and intelligent off-loads from Morris made yard after yard for the Wids with Mercer and Stewart always in the thick of it.

Smith (1), Rugan, Molyneaux, captain Hough (1), Crank (1), Phillips (5 cons), Thompson (1), Doolan (1) and Glover all played well.

THE young Wids side had three great wins against tough opposition on the Wirral.

On very small pitches they controlled the ball well and rarely allowed the other teams space.

To their credit several of the tries resulted from their willingness to keep the ball alive and stretch their opponents defensive line.

The squad is now looking forward to a trip to Oxfordshire and the Banbury RUFC festival next Sunday.
