Schoolboy killed in town centre

HORRIFIED shoppers saw a young schoolboy killed after he ran in front of a bus in Widnes town centre on Thursday afternoon.

Football-loving Dylan Lines, aged 8, died at the scene in Milton Road, Simms Cross after a collison with the number 14 bus at around 4.15pm.

An Asda shopper who saw what happeneded, said: "He ran out between two parked vehicles and didn't stop. He obviously didn't see the bus.

"I thought he might have avoided it but then he didn't come out the other side. It was horrible."

He was described as "a popular and lively Year 3 pupil" by his headteacher, Kate Smallwood who said Dylan's school, Simms Cross Primary, had been left "extremely shocked and saddened".

Flowers, cards and balloons have been left at the scene with messages of condolence.

Asda and Halton Transport say they have been helping the police with their investigations.

An ambulance spokesman said that a second ambulance was needed to treat a witness who suffered heart problems after the accident.
