Council changes should not be abandoned

VALE Royal Borough Council has called for the Government not to abandon plans for the reorganisation of local councils following the 'No' vote in the North East regional assembly referendum.

The borough council, together with Cheshire's five other district councils, wants three all-purpose authorities to be established in the county, to replace the current structure of county and district councils.

Chester City Councillor John Price, speaking on behalf of the six districts, said: "We have done a great deal of work so far and the arguments in favour of three new councils are absolutely compelling and would cost significantly less than the current arrangements."
