Mel casts away her clothes to land the chance of dream carribean honeymoon

A BUBBLY Warrington woman is competing - Big Brother style - to win a holiday in the Maldives.

Melanie Trigg, aged 25, of Knutsford Road, joined five castaways on Monday bidding to win the £7,000 luxury holiday in the Maldives.

They are living on a 'desert island' in Manchester city centre until tomorrow, Friday, and in true Big Brother tradition, they have to perform gruelling tasks with radio listeners voting one person off every day.

Mel hopes to land the prize and turn it into a honeymoon for her and fianc, Des Whitling, after they wed in the Parish Church, this June.

Judges selected Mel after a 20-minute interview where, among other achievements, she admitted to streaking naked across a field after a millennium night dare. She also listed a case of Boddingtons as a must have item, if stranded on a desert island.

Mel is a veterinary nurse specialising in horse care. She was brought up in Sorbes Close, Birchwood, and went to Birchwood High.

She said: "I'm really looking forward to the challenge and will do whatever it takes to win my holiday, except eat bugs."

As the Guardian went to press, Mel was still on the island and, according to a Key 103 spokemsman, was doing very well with the voting
