Paedophile may have sentence extended

A SEX offender from Great Sankey could have his prison sentence extended in London's Court of Appeal next month.

As reported in the Warrington Guardian last month, the court will re-examine the four-year sentence, which was handed down to Steve Mattison, aged 51, of Shiggins Close, in April, this year.

The Crown Prosecution Service has appealed to the court on the grounds that the sentence was unduly lenient.

Mattison was due to appear in October but his case was adjourned at the last minute. He will now stand trial on Wednesday, December 15.

Mattison was found guilty of 16 separate counts of sexual assault on two girls, whom he abused for seven years, from the age of nine.
