Thieves raid car of mourner at cemetery

A GRIEVING woman was left 'sickened and devasted' after thieves broke into her car as she visited her father's grave.

Danielle Cobb, aged 21, of Keyes Close, Birchwood, was shaken when she discovered a digital camera, worth £400, had been stolen from her boyfriend's Fiat Punto while she was tending the grave of her father, who died seven months ago, at Fox Covert cemetery, Appleton.

Danielle, an insurance claims consultant, and her partner, Kurt Farrar, a computer software developer, who is also aged 21, had parked the car outside the Appleton cemetery, as gates close at 3pm each day, to visit the grave of 47-year-old Frank Cobb, who died of cancer in April.

Danielle said: "It's quite disturbing that you go to see loved ones and are treated so badly.

"I was disgusted that we could not leave the car without having the boot broken into and expensive equipment stolen. Is nothing safe anymore?"

Danielle, who goes to Fox Convert each Saturday afternoon, was so upset that she could not return the following week.

Cemetery staff say theft has become a frequent occurrence. Signs are now displayed around the grounds warning visitors of the threat.

Danielle added: "It's bad enough that the gates close so early, but you don't expect this to happen.

"I can only warn other people to take extra care.

"I'm just sorry this had to happen while coming to see him and I'll never come by myself again."

Warrington Police confirmed the break-in was being investigated.
