Drinking problems

UNDERAGE drinking is causing problems for residents in the Burtonwood and Westbrook parish said PC Joanna Buckley at the October meeting of the parish council.

However, PC Buckley said the problem is not that shops are irresponsibly selling alcohol but adults who supply teenagers with drink.

She said: "The trend, which has increased this year, is for older teenagers to buy alcohol and give it to the younger ones whom they are fraternising with. When we questioned some over-18s about why they do not drink in pubs they said it is because it is cheaper to buy alcohol in off-licences."

She reported that one 18-year old has been identified for supplying alcohol to youngsters.
