Centre aims to generate interest

AN ADVICE centre in Winsford will soon be practising what it preaches with the help of an environmentally friendly donation.

As part of its move to new premises on Grange Lane, the Cheshire Energy Efficiency Advice Centre (CHEEAC) hopes to install a small wind turbine and a photovoltaic panel donated by Cheshire County Council's environment department to help meet some of its electricity demand.

The equipment, which generates electricity from wind and sunlight, will reduce the demand on mains electricity and help reduce emissions of carbon dioxide, one of the main contributors to climate change.

Peter Owen, manager of CHEEAC, said: "In addition to reducing our energy demand through simple actions like turning lights and appliances off when not needed, we are excited at the prospect of generating our own electricity.

"The wind turbine and photovoltaic panel will help us in our work of raising awareness of the impacts of energy use and demonstrate to households and small businesses that action need not be difficult."
