Family aid service wins plaudits

A SERVICE that provides advice and resources to families in Winsford has been praised.

Labour Party candidate Mark Green spent time at the offices of Surestart Winsford and was impressed with the way the centre provides services for families with young children.

Two of the key positions at Surestart are a specialist speech development professional and a midwife.

Mr Green said: "The midwife in particular is important as all pregnant women in the Winsford area have to travel to Leighton Hospital in Crewe to be seen.

"Having a midwife at Surestart gives expectant mothers the chance to talk freely about the issues and fears that they have, ensuring that the birth and more importantly the early weeks are planned and understood."

Mr Green, who is standing as a candidate for Eddisbury at the next general election, believes great strides are being made at the Surestart centre.

He said: "The Surestart idea is coming to life in Winsford and lives are being changed for the better.

"Surestart is at its best when it is helping families to get the best out of the services available and ensure that people don't fall between the gaps."
