STRIKING a pose in his swimming trunks has won one muscle-bound plasterer a place in the Mr Britain final.
Wayne Stockton, aged 30, of Avery Close, Padgate, has only been competing for a year, so was shocked to have reached the top level of his sport so quickly. He became interested in body-building whilst still at school and, soon after finishing, started going to Muscle House gym in Bewsey. He trains there for two hours every day as well as doing morning and evening exercises at home.
Describing himself as an extrovert, Wayne said: "It's difficult to be shy and get on stage in a pair of trunks. You have to be 150 per cent focussed and comfortable with yourself."
Wayne said his hobby started because he wanted to emulate Arnold Schwarzenegger, keep fit and increase his size.
Now he admits controlling his body image has taken over his life.
However, the buzz of being able to change his physique, as well as the goal setting and the sense of achievement, keeps Wayne motivated and enjoying his sport.
In competitions, Robbie Williams' Let me Entertain You accompanies his poses because, he says, "the beat lets me do some good moves and it's a crowd pleaser".
However, it is a strict diet that causes Wayne the biggest problems. He said: "It changes on a weekly basis and is an absolute science. Lifting weights is the easy bit."
The Mr Britain final will be held in Birmingham this November.
