In a lather

A WASHING powder factory has apologised for covering a resident's car and house windows in suds.

Last Thursday, Lillian Mahood, of Cromwell Court, off Sankey Street, complained to Lever Faberg about the incident.

A spokesman for the company said that a representative visited her home the same day to investigate.

"We would like to assure Mrs Mahood and our neighbours that we take complaints extremely seriously. Where powder has been found on cars, we have apologised for any inconvenience we may have caused and as a gesture of goodwill, have offered to arrange for the cars to be cleaned at our expense."

The company says that the emissions are coming from a tower which emits steam and, occasionally, powder from the manufacturing process.

The spokesman added: "We would also like to reassure people that emissions of powder from the plant present no more risk to health than does the normal use of laundry detergent powder at home."

He also said that Lever Faberg has invested £120,000 in investigating how to cut emissions, with the help of a team of experts.
