Cruise control

POLICE have put the brakes on hundreds of car cruisers gearing up to meet in Woolston.

Police Community Action Team officers launched an operation to deal with the 200 vehicles that meet at the Woolston Grange trading estate.

Surveillance was carried out last week following residents' concerns. Up to 300 cruisers were seen gathering last Monday.

Inspector Stuart Woodcock led the operation and said events attract a minority of drivers who drive dangerously.

"The organisers of such events are without doubt being irresponsible and need to carefully consider the consequences of their actions," he said.

"Driving at high speeds on roads, with pedestrians watching close by, is extremely dangerous and significantly increases the chances of a serious or fatal road traffic collision."

Police, with the Vehicle and Operator Services Agency, slapped prohibitions on 23 cars after thorough checks. These prevent vehicles from road use.
