Hole lot of cash

A SYNDICATE of golfers from Warrington can get themselves some new clubs after sinking a £61,373 Lotto win.

The syndicate members had the best round of their careers by matching five numbers and the bonus ball in Wednesday's draw on October 13.

The syndicate, made up of seven golfing friends who arecurrent or former members of Birchwood Golf Club.

Electrical engineer, 45-year-old Phil Chilton runs the syndicate and was at home working on his computer, when his wife Paula, aged 47, checked the Lotto numbers.

Phil hid the winning ticket in an Elton John CD case for safekeeping.

He said: "I was so shocked when I found out we had won, but as soon as it sank in I phoned everyone else to let them know.

"They didn't believe me at first but once I had convinced them, we arranged a celebration.

"I'm not sure exactly what I will spend my winnings on yet, but I'm sure I will treat my wife to an extra special present for her birthday next week."

The syndicate has been playing Lotto for the past five years and plays lines every Saturday, as well as every Wednesday.

The winning ticket was bought from the Spar, Woolston, and the winning numbers were 3, 7, 14, 17, 18, 43, and the bonus ball was 42.

Phil Chilton and Robert Leighton both live in Warrington town centre, while Fred Axon lives in Manchester and Les Oldham in Boothstown.
