Footy fever at The Brow

FOOTY fever came to a Runcorn school when pupils held their very own European championships to take their minds off England's dismal defeat in Portugal.

Searing heat and big-name players might not have been in abundance but The Brow primary school still played host to plenty of talent, colour and atmosphere.

Sweden ran out eventual winner of the eight-team round robin tournament, beating Bulgaria 2-1 in the final.

Head teacher Malcolm White, said: "It was a very good morning. The sun was shining, the children looked smart in their kits and their was some excellent sportsmanship on display as well as some very good football."

Each year captain picked their team and players, while fans had to show up in their country's colours.

"The idea was to use Euro 2004 to promote sport and physical activity in an enjoyable way that includes everyone," Mr White said.

"We have done this kind of thing before when there's a big sporting event and the children love it.
