Reid: "I totally deserved it"

ROBIN Reid resurrected his career with a crucial points defeat of IBO super-middleweight champion Brian Magee in Belfast on Saturday night.

After a nervy start in front of a partisan Kings Hall crowd, the Runcorn fighter floored the unbeaten Irishman four times to take a unanimous points verdict 115-112, 114-111, 113-112.

The 33-year-old came away with Magee's IBO belt and the chance to fight for a major world title, either against WBA champion Manny Siaca of Puerto Rico or WBC belt-holder Christian Sanavia of Italy.

Reid, who overcame a nasty gash to his forehead after a clash of heads in the fifth, said: "I totally deserved it. I've had so many decisions go against me in my career and I've worked really hard for this."
