D-Day row rumbles on

I WOULD like to bring to your attention my uttermost disgust in the St Helens Council at the D-Day Remembrance Service.

I am a member of the Northern Ireland Veterans Association and attend most Remembrance Parades and never before have I been so ashamed to be a Veteran from St Helens. Granted I never served during WW11 but I always find time to pay my respects.

During the service we couldn't hear what the padre was saying because there wasn't any loud speakers provided and because the traffic was not stopped during the service. I saw only two Councillors representing the Council and to top this shambles off the Council could not even be bothered to raise the Union flag.

The Council should hold their heads in shame about this and I have a feeling I will not be the only one complaining.

This was totally disrespectful to those that had fallen and those that had served.

STUART Dean, Secretary, The Northern Ireland Veterans Association.
