Get your skates on soon for opening

WORK has started on the long-awaited skateboard park in Culcheth village.

Contractors moved in last week to start laying the foundations for the park. And it is hoped it will open to its first skateboarder at the end of the month.

Councillor Sue Bland said: "Work started on the park last week and they should be laying the final pieces of equipment this week.

"It's proved popular already. Even before all the surface was laid down there were kids using it.

"It looks good and it's out of the way as well, although you can see it from the main road.

"There's a gate on the entrance at the top end of Shaw Street as well.

"The playing surface has almost all been laid now and it's just the final jumps that need putting in place."

After the closure of the village youth centre at the start of the year, the new park will be a welcome addition for youths in the village.

Councillor Keith Bland said: "We've been waiting a long time in Culcheth for the skateboard park. It's well on its way now and I'm sure it will be a great success."

The skateboard park will also have a equipment suitable for BMX bike-riders to try out their stunts.
