Schoolchildren turn supersleuths for a lesson in crime fighting, as new police HQ is officially unve

SCHOOLCHILDREN from Winsford got the chance to see exactly how Cheshire's crime fighters operate at the official opening of the new police headquarters on Monday.

Every school in the town was invited to send pupils along to the event, which began with the unveiling and dedication of a ceremonial plaque.

After the ceremony the fun started, with youngsters given the opportunity to become a detective for the day by investigating a mocked-up crime scene.

And the pupils got a permanent reminder of the day when they were awarded with a 'super-sleuth' certificate marked with their individual fingerprints.

Civic dignitaries, including Anne Hooker, the Mayor of Vale Royal, and Winsford Mayor Don Beckett, attended the event.

The headquarters has been operational since earlier this year and took more than five years to develop.

Specialist units previously based all over the county are now housed in the new building, which employs more than 900 people.
