MP JOINS INCINERATOR FIGHT

TATTON MP George Osborne has joined the campaign to prevent an incinerator from being built in Lostock Gralam.

Mr Osborne has urged Northwich residents to oppose Cheshire County Council's proposals to build a 'thermal treatment centre'.

The former ICI site, off Griffiths Road, has been identified as one of four where an incinerator could be built in the county.

Details of the sites can be found in the first draft of Cheshire replacement waste local plan.

Objections must be made by noon on Wednesday, June 23.

Mr Osborne said: "Nobody around here wants an incinerator. It would be a huge eyesore and a massive health concern for local people.

"We are talking about a built-up area that includes many young families.

"It is a totally unsuitable site for an incinerator. I want as many people as possible in the Northwich area to object. It's time to get writing."

Details of how to make representations can be found on the website, www.cheshire.gov.uk/wasteplan/index.htm.
