Fun runners give green boost

FUN runners will be helping give a green boost to the grounds of a Great Sankey school.

Pupils at Sycamore Lane Primary School are dressing up for their Ground Force-themed fun run on Sunday (June 20).

And Warrington Wolves mascot Wolfie paid the children a visit on Monday to wish them all the best of luck.

Robert Cleverly, head teacher at the school, said that the money raised on the day will help to make the school grounds a friendly, attractive, safe and stimulating place for pupils to learn and play.

The school has set up a Grounds Development Group to push the project forward.

Mr Cleverly said: "The next thing we are hoping to do is open up the woodland area around the edge of the fields.

"There was an existing path some time ago that has become overgrown and we want to make that accessible for the children so that they can use it but can be seen and safe.

"We also hope to develop quiet areas for them to sit in if they don't want to join in the hurly burly of the playground."

Each class is responsible for the designing, planting and upkeep of a particular area in the grounds every year and a lottery-funded outdoor theatre is to be officially opened at the school next month.

If anybody would like to make a donation to the grounds project or sponsor the children on Sunday, they should contact the school office on 723558.
