Problem path is a thorn in the side for resident Colin

A RESIDENT in Latchford says that Warrington Borough Council is neglecting a piece of land in which it invested a large amount of money.

Colin Webb, of Gainsborough Road, told the Warrington Guardian that a footpath that leads to the Trans Pennine Trail is completely overgrown with nettles.

He said that the borough council had invested a significant amount of cash in resurfacing the path and now it has let it fall into disrepair.

Mr Webb said: "It was all resurfaced and there must be nettles 5ft 6in tall there now.

"The council say that they are short staffed. They say bear with us. But if they can't even look after it after they have done it up, what's the point?"

He added: "It was well used but it's just a waste of time now - there are nettles on both sides. It's just diabolical."

Dave Stamp, head of landscape services at the borough council, said: "We have not received any complaints from members of the public about the access point to the Trans Pennine Trail, just of Antony Road and Gainsborough Road. However, the area is due for its scheduled maintenance and will be cleared soon."
