Can you help Gemma pay for her trip to help Romanians?

NEWTON student Gemma Williams is jetting off to teach Romanian children English.

But she needs to raise £450 to pay for her airfare before she flies on June 18, and wants people in Newton to help her.

Gemma, from Sidley Drive, is doing everything she can to raise the money, but is asking for people to sponsor her.

She is holding car boot sales, guess the sweets in the jar competitions and more, but has still not raised enough money to cover flight and administration costs.

Gemma was one of 14 people chosen in the UK to fly to Romania to help non-profit organisation D.A.D International teach Romanian children.

She will stay in a house with the other 13 'teachers' for three weeks and will help Romanian children between the ages of eight and 18 to learn English.

Her mother Linda said: "She loves working with children so this will be an ideal opportunity for her. I think it will also boost her confidence, which she doesn't have a lot of. But when we are on holiday we never see her because she is always off helping out at the children's clubs."

Seventeen-year-old Gemma hopes to become a children's rep for a holiday company abroad.

She has done other voluntary work in the past, including helping out at Mill Green School.
