Hale 1st XI

Hale 1st XI v Rainhill 2nd XI

BATTING first, Peter Sharp and his captain Robbie Morris struggled to get to grips with some tight Rainhill bowling.

Robbie Morris, eight, was the first casualty of the afternoon, edging the ball on to his wicket.

Peter Withers helped take the score to 74 but was caught by Pink for 30 and then Gareth Hatton went for 11.

Mark Fry, four, lasted just two overs and Sutcliffe, nought, lasted a mere two balls.

Tony Poole lasted for six overs, before being bowled for 11 to become Pearson's third victim.

Wayne Burgess was run out for nought to leave the score at 130 for seven.

Billy Morris came to the rescue adding nine runs to a 55 run partnership with Sharp for the eighth wicket before getting caught.

John Alderton snr helped Sharp add a further 18 runs to the total before Morris declared on 57 overs, with the score at 203 for eight.

Sharp was 117 not out, which included 16 fours in what was his maiden century.

Pearson was the first Rainhill batsman out having scored 32.

Graham Comins at three aided Bathgate in the run chase before being run out by skipper Robbie Morris on 59. Vic De Silva, who scored 106 last week, came in at four.

He hit some nice shots including a few big sixes, but this was to be in vain with Withers returning to the attack.

He had Comins caught and bowled for 38.

Yates came in at the death and aided De Silva to take Rainhill's score to 183 for three.

The result a creditable draw for Hale first XI.

Next weekend Hale first XI entertain Moorfield second XI at home, wickets pitched at 2pm.
