Halton Jaguars v Barnsley Strikers

HALTON Jaguars maintained their winning record in two games against the Barnsley Strikers.

In game one catcher Allott caught a hanging curve ball from pitcher Chris Hartley to send it out of the left field fence for a two run homer followed by a third run to take an early lead with the Jaguars not scoring in that inning.

However 2-3 up, three down innings of work by Hartley gave the Jags a chance to come back and they did, scoring six in the second.

Reaching on a walk, Bryan Hulme scored on Nick Bustin's single.

Bustin stole second and advanced to third on a passed ball to be squeezed home by Harry Mills's bunt, which also earned him first base.

The Jags took charge and fine doubles to Danny Lloyd and Colin Walton both resulted in runs.

Two more big innings, four in the fourth and seven in the sixth ensured the result was rarely in doubt. In game two, Jaguars found gaps in the Strikers' defence.

Meanwhile a strong pitching performance by Nick Bustin allowed only one or two runs per inning for the struggling Strikers enabling the Jags to forge ahead and the game ended by the slaughter rule after the fifth inning 20-8 to Halton. The Jags play Manchester A at Allen Field next. Halton Jaguars play Sheffield Bladerunners on July 11 at Halton Field.
