Linda and Sheila have a mountain to climb before they can get to Kilimanjaro

A PAIR of volunteers from Westy who are planning to climb Kilimanjaro are appealing for help to get their fundraising off the ground.

Sure Start workers Linda Ebblewhite and Sheila Mason are preparing to climb one of the world's largest mountains to raise more than £5,000 for cerebral palsy charity, SCOPE.

But they have hit problems before they have started, due to the amount of similar campaigns.

Linda, aged 50 and from Bewsey, said: "We have written off to loads and loads of businesses but we have had negative or no responses."

The climb is planned for January 2005 and Linda described the event as 'two menopausal ladies on Kilimanjaro'.

Alpass Avenue resident Linda said: "I've always fancied doing it.

"I saw it when I went to Africa recently and it has always been on Sheila's wish list.

"We are both getting on a bit and if we don't do it now we will never do it."

The couple need to raise £5,500 between them.

The money will help pay for anything from as small as a £4.50 adapted can opener to a specialist bed costing £3,000.

Golden Square is to be the venue for their next charity event - with the duo planning a tombola this Saturday.
