Residents fuming over factory smell

A CHOKING diesel smell from a Runcorn factory has produced complaints from people living nearby.

Aram Resources in Percival Lane had to fix its diesel burner after Halton Council got in touch.

Paul Adamson, area manager said: "We have had complaints from the council and we have been in discussion with them for the last couple of weeks.

"We had somebody working on the plant and we believe the problem is now rectified.

"I hope that it's been resolved now. From our own point of view we don't want to cause concerns for local residents and it doesn't make any sense for us because the problem was inefficient."

Tony Steele of Crofton Road said the factory has been causing problems for years.

He said: "The fumes are sickening and get on your chest and throat.

"It is making life in the area unbearable. It undermines our confidence if the council's ability to look after the health and well being of the people."

Halton Council said: "Following a visit from a specialist consultant from France, the problem at Aram Resources has been resolved.

"Residents may continue to experience a slight odour for a short period of time while the system corrects itself.

"Halton Council has authorised Aram to operate as an industrial process and will be changing the conditions to require that the burner is monitored regularly by the company prior to production."
