Who's in charge?

FURTHER to your reader's comments on St Helens recycling scheme, I would like to highlight the following.

Why is it as a Haydock resident, the collection in our close is Friday, when it should be Thursday or when it suits the collectors? Consequently the boxes of cans, bottles etc are being left out for several days and eventually get strewn around the streets.

Initially when we were issued with our 'black boxes', the whole of our close took part, however poor collection times and missed collections have resulted in far less participation.

Furthermore, being a big supporter of recycling and the environment I cannot understand how the council can justify using the vehicle which made our collection last Friday. The truck was so large it took nearly five minutes to negotiate our close to collect two boxes of refuse.

It doesn't take a genius to figure out that operating a 10mile per gallon truck to collect a handful of boxes on the wrong collection dates is not helping our environment.

How closely is this scheme managed I ask?
