Green 107 inspires diligent response

GRAPPENHALL Cricket Club's first string drew on Saturday at newly promoted and title challenging Christleton in the Murray Smith Cheshire County Cricket League.

Christleton were put into bat first and they were soon away to a flyer but the brakes were applied as Hards and Titchard bowled some tight overs.

At 72 runs for two wickets after 20 overs the match was finely balanced but Christleton roared away to notch up a huge total of 260 runs for the loss of four wickets.

The target seemed too big to reach but Grappenhall set about their task diligently, always being prepared to hit a bad ball.

After suffering the early loss of Nick Sharp, his son Will and Richard Green moved the total steadily on. They put 150 on for the second wicket and took Grappenhall into a respectable position.

Sharp was out on 53 and Green for a glorious 107 as the innings petered out to 210-4.

The team will be looking for a win against Brooklands at Broad Lane on Saturday.

Grappenhall Seconds were soundly beaten by Congleton on Saturday.

All looked rosy early on as they raced to 90 without loss. Then Dave Nicholson, 40 and Andy Wright, 48, were out in quick succession and further quick wickets fell but a recovery led to them building a respectable score of 159-7.

Congleton's reply was steady and although Grappenhall made some inroads to their line-up, they were never in trouble and cruised to their target with eight overs to spare.

The seconds will travel to Brooklands on Saturday.
