Don't say it with flowers

A BEREAVED family asked relatives and friends to make gift donations to a charity rather than buy flowers.

They were so grateful for the help Widnes & Runcorn Cancer Support Group gave their mum, Gillian Williams, they wanted to say thank you.

"My mother used to say you can't smell them when you're dead," said her daughter, Tania, who lives in America. "I know she'd be tickled that this has happened.

"This cancer centre has been fabulous to us all. They have helped me and been really great. We do have centres like this in America but they are Government funded."

Aquarobics teacher Gillian, of Widnes, died on May 3. Many of her students from Widnes and Runcorn came to her funeral.

Her husband, Jim donated £380 to the cancer group this week. His son, Andrew and his daughter, Iona have just returned to their home in Belgium.

Dee Graal, the charity's founder and development co-ordinator, said: "It's wonderful to receive these generous donations. We are very grateful."

The cancer support group offers practical, emotional and psychological support to patients, carers and their families. The Alforde Street centre in Widnes is open Monday to Friday. Call 0151-423 5730.
