EVERYONE has a story inside of them but precious few are moved to put pen to paper, or in these high-tech days, to "key in" ones' creative thoughts or reflections.

Grappenhall resident Marjorie Joyce Jones is one of the exceptions and in her new book My Eighty Years of Memories, she looks back on a life that began in Nottingham in 1919. Before she was five years old her father died from the effects of tuberculosis, leaving her mother a widow at 27 and having to care for her and her younger brother.

Despite this blow, Marjorie enjoyed a happy childhood and it will be fascinating for younger people to read of the innocent activities enjoyed by youngsters and the 1920s and 30s.

Marjorie became a dressmaker and ultimately married Douglas, a Welshman serving in the Royal Navy, in 1945. They remained together until his death 11 years ago.

Today, Marjorie lives with her daughter and son in law, Janice and John Pownall, and her grandsons and in addition to her writing she enjoys embroidery, knitting and oil painting.

This is the story of so many women of Marjorie's age and background - but fascinating for all that.
