Police arrest four on suspicion of murder

POLICE have until this evening, Tuesday, to decide whether to charge or release four people who have been arrested on suspicion of murder.

Cheshire Police applied to magistrates yesterday, Monday, for a 36-hour extension to the normal arrest period so that they can conduct further interviews with the three men and one woman.

They have been arrested in connection with the murder of Malcolm Crompton, aged 39, from Warrington.

His body was found in the brook at Sankey Valley Park by the police's underwater search unit on Saturday, at around 7.20pm.

On Monday morning a post-mortem examination concluded that Mr Crompton died from blunt force trauma and stabbing.

A 30-year-old man and a 28-year-old woman from Warrington are in police custody along with a 23-year-old man, of no fixed address, and a 45-year-old man from Rainhill.

Police are appealing for anybody who thinks they may have seen anything at the brook, near to Kimberley Street, to call them on 01244 350000.

Alternatively you can call Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
