Green Way work starts

WORK on transforming Woolston New Cut Green Way into a more accessible, user-friendly route is set to get under way at the beginning of March.

The footpath between the Lane and Larkfield Avenue will be closed for an estimated 12 weeks and alternative routes are likely to be via Larkfield Avenue, Manchester Road and New Cut Lane.

The works will include a complete resurfacing of the footpath, which is frequently used by pedestrians and cyclists, and widening of the existing track.

The immediate area surrounding the path, currently overrun with weeds, will also be landscaped as part of the £25,000 maintenance project funded by Landfill Tax Credits.

The 800m section of pathway is an existing public right of way and forms part of an important strategic link between Stockton Heath and Birchwood.

It forms part of the proposed Greenway Network for Warrington, which was developed through the Warrington Local Transport Plan process in 1999 and 2000.
