WINSFORD United are back in the hunt for a promotion place following a week in which they have rediscovered their desire.
A win at home to Chadderton and a draw away at form side Oldham Town has put the Blues very much back in the promotion frame and manager Dave Twite is convinced that the ear-bashing he gave the side last week has worked wonders.
He said: "Everybody pulled together and we sorted a few things out against Chadderton and it made a big difference.
"We looked more solid and to be honest the score line could have been more convincing than the 2-1."
He added: "We brought in Steve Rowlands, Gareth Boldsworth and Ross Cable and it made a few people sit up and think their places in the team might not be safe.
"I also switched Stuart Wellstead to left back and it worked really well, so well in fact that he scored against Chadderton and was man of the match against Oldham on Saturday."
And Twite feels his side's new-found form could be enough to fire them to promotion.
He added: "We are aiming for a sixth place finish at least.
"I don't think it has been finalised yet as to how many teams are going to go up, possibly six, maybe four and even two.
"I think top two is out of our grasp now but we've got enough to finish in the top six.
"There are 11 games to go and 33 points to play for - it's there if we want it.
"Having said that, this is my first season and most of the lads haven't played at this level before.
"I'm more than happy with what they've done this season, particularly as they've done it for nothing.
"Flixton are paying their lads huge win bonuses to try to get back into the first division but we haven't got that kind of cash and we're playing just for the sake of playing football.
"I'm really pleased with the lads this season and I'm sure the chairman is as well.
"The fans have also been excellent and it's been good to get regular gates of more than 100 at home."
